Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension On Narrative Text Through Story Mapping Strategy At The Eighth Grade Of SMP PAB 8 Sampali

This research aimed to improve students’ reading comprehension of narrative text
using the Story Mapping Strategy at the eighth grade of SMP PAB 8 Sampali. To
address this issue, the researcher implemented Classroom Action Research (CAR)
in two cycles, involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data was
collected through multiple-choice tests, observation sheets, interview,
documentation, and field notes. Based on the data analysis, students’ reading
comprehension was improved in every test of each cycle. In the pre-test, the mean

score was 42.32. In post-test 1 of cycle 1, the mean score was 64.82, and in the post-
test 2 of cycle 2, the mean score was 83.04. The Story Mapping Strategy was

effective in improving students’ reading comprehension in identifying the main idea
and supporting details of narrative text (intrinsic and extrinsic elements) and
improving students’ participation in the classroom. Therefore, this strategy can
serve as an engaging and effective alternative to improve reading comprehension
in narrative text.
