Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension On Descriptive Text Through Structured Note-Taking Strategy At The Tenth Grade Of Sma Swasta Budi Agung Medan

This research was conducted to improve students’ reading comprehension on
descriptive text through Structured Note-Taking Strategy at the tenth-grade of SMA
Swasta Budi Agung Medan. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR)
method which was carried out in two cycles, with each cycle including planning,
action, observation, and reflection stages. The instrument used for collecting the
quantitative data was multiple choices test and the instruments used for collecting the
qualitative data were observation sheet, interview, documentation, and field notes.
The results of the research showed there was an improvement on students' reading
comprehension through Structured Note-Taking Strategy in each test of each cycle. In
the pre-test of pre-cycle, the mean score was 50.86. In post-test I of cycle I, the mean
score was 74.71, and in the post-test II of cycle II, the mean score was 86.85. This
research concluded that the Structured Note-Taking Strategy effectively to improve
students reading comprehension that help students to identify and organize important
information in descriptive text. It is recommended that this strategy can be used more
widely to support reading activities that automatically to improve students’ reading
comprehension
