Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension In Descriptive Text By Using Multiple Intelligence Strategy At The Seventh Grade Student Of SMP Swasta Harvard Medan
This study aimed to improve students' reading comprehension through the implementation of
Multiple Intelligences strategies at the seventh grade of SMP Swasta Harvard Medan. This
study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology, consisting of two cycles, each
with four stages: planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were
collected through observation sheets, interviews, documentation, field notes, and reading tests.
Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyze the data and evaluate improvements
in students' reading comprehension. Results showed significant improvement in reading
comprehension after implementing the Multiple Intelligences strategy. The average score
increased from 52.8 on the pre-test to 70.2 in cycle I and ended at 87.2 in cycle II. This study
concluded that Multiple Intelligences effectively helped students' understanding of descriptive
texts by utilizing the diverse intelligences possessed by each student, there by making the
learning process more optimal and meaningful. Based on these findings, the research
recommends the broader use of Multiple Intelligences strategies in reading instruction to
further enhance students' comprehension skills.
