The Effect Of Using Who Is It Game on Students' Speaking Ability
This research investigated the effect of using the Who Is It game on the speaking
ability of seventh-grade students at MTS Swasta Darul Ulum Budi Agung Medan.
The study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design,
involving two classes: an experimental class (30 students) taught using the Who Is
It game and a control class (36 students) taught using conventional methods.
Speaking ability was assessed using Brown’s (2004) rubric, covering grammar,
vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and pronunciation. Data were collected
through pre-tests and post-tests, then analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and
independent sample t-tests. The findings revealed that the experimental class
achieved a higher post-test mean score (84.00) compared to the control class
(75.53), with a significant difference at the 0.05 level (Sig. = 0.000). This indicates
that the Who Is It game has a significant positive effect on students’ speaking
ability, making it an effective and engaging strategy for English language learning.
